Sermon Title

Faith Reloaded

Scripture

“But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” Matthew 3:39

My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.

If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.James 1:2-8

Sermon Notes

Slide 1 – Faith is the perceiving power of the mind linked with our ability to shape substance (our imagination). Fillmore

Slide 2 – Faith is It is a level of thinking by which we actually become a part of the all-accomplishing infinite mind of God. Butterworth

Slide 3 – Faith is a willingness to work in the dark; to walk a trail that the heart can see but the eye cannot. Butterworth

Point #1 Don’t let the world tell you how to think.

Point #2 Don’t let the world tell you how to feel.Point #3 Learn to turn the other cheek.

Rev. Sherri James

Sermon Title

Hope Reloaded

Scripture

“The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring[a] forever” (Genesis 13:14-15).

“So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…” (Joel 2:25).

Sermon Notes

1. You are a creative expression of the infinite…The real goal of creation is you.

2. The first step of Advent is hope.

3. The process of being “reloaded,” the commitment to the discovery and the releasement of this inner fire, this divine self, begins right where you are right now,

4. What happened, happened. It couldn’t have happened any other way because it didn’t.

5. The locusts that Joel refers to is the disruptiveness of negative thinking.

Quote

“Every man is a divinity in disguise, a god playing the fool” (Emerson).

Scripture

The Joy of the Lord is your Strength (Nehemiah 8:10).

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I come that they may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10).

Sermon Thesis

Pleasure or Joy? There is a great difference between pleasure and joy. Pleasure is fleeting and destructive. Joy brings empowerment, inner peace, renewed creativity and natural independence.

Spiritual Practices to Cultivate Joy

  1. To experience lasting Joy, look to God as your source.
  2. Tap into the well-spring of eternal life through a consistent practice of meditation, prayer and silence.
  3. Become aware of the vision for your life, more abundantly and take daily steps towards it. This will help you not give into short term gratification so much.

Affirmation for Joy

I AM the Joy of the Spirit, and therefore this Joy that I have, the world didn’t give it to me and the world can’t take it away. The Joy of the Lord is my strength.
