Series Title: The Magic of Believing

Sermon Title: Help My Unbelief

Guiding Scripture: Mark 9:14-25

When they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them. When the whole crowd saw him, they were immediately overcome with awe, and they ran forward to greet him.  He asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?” Someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought you my son; he has a spirit that makes him unable to speak; and whenever it seizes him, it dashes him down; and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid; and I asked your disciples to cast it out, but they could not do so.” He answered them, “You faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him to me.”  And they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. It has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you are able to do anything, have pity on us and help us.” Jesus said to him, “If you are able!—All things can be done for the one who believes.”  Immediately the father of the child cried out, “I believe; help my unbelief!”  When Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You spirit that keeps this boy from speaking and hearing, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!”

Sermon Points

Point 1: You must have a fixed idea before you’ll obtain what you are after.

Point 2: Thoughts do create and exercise control far beyond any limits yet known to man, they create only according to their pitch, intensity, emotional quality, depth of feeling, or vibratory plane.

Point 3: Thoughts have a creative or controlling force in the exact radio of their constancy, intensity, and power.

Point 4: Creative force comes only when there is a completely rounded-out thought, when there is a fully developed mental picture, or when the imagination can visualize the fulfillment of our ambition and see in our mind a picture of the object we desire, just as if we already possessed them.

Point 5: The chief powers of the conscious mind are reason, logic, form, judgment, calculation, conscience, and the moral sense. By it we take cognizance of the objective world, and its means of observation are our five physical senses.

Point 6: The powers of the subconscious are many, the chief of which are intuition, emotion, certitude, inspiration, suggestion, deduction, imagination, organization, and, of course, memory and dynamic energy.

Point 7: Belief is the key. Think, feel and see yourself as successful!

Spiritual Mind Treatment (excerpted from Quiet Moments with God by Joseph Murphy)

My desire is the Voice of God speaking to me. It is the murmuring and the whispering of my heart. I know that all things are possible with God. God is my Deep-Self. God is the Formless, Invisible Spirit within me. Being aware of the desire, I know it must exist in the Invisible for me. I know it is mine right at this moment.

I accept it in my own consciousness. I know that I now have released my desire into the Creative Law, which is the Source of all creation. The Creative Law is within me; it is my own subconscious mind. I know when the idea or desire of mine is impressed in the subjective medium, it must be expressed. I know that feeling is the law, and the law is the feeling. I feel that I am now what I long to be. As I now contemplate my desire, I get the reaction which satisfies. I rejoice in the sense of possession. My whole being thrills to the reality of the fulfilled desire. I am at peace; I rejoice and give thanks, “It is done.”
