Student Award Day Speaker: Rev. Sheree Thompson
Sermon Title
No Limit
Scripture
John 5:2-9 Now in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in Hebrew Beth-zatha, which has five porticoes. In these lay many invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; and while I am making my way, someone else steps down ahead of me.” Jesus said to him, “Stand up, take your mat and walk.” At once the man was made well, and he took up his mat and began to walk. Now that day was a sabbath.
Sermon Notes
The Pool of Bethesda story is really about agreements. Your thinking and your actions have to agree with what you say you are seeking in life.
1: Agreement in Mind: In this passage, Jesus is looking for two agreements. First, He asks the man, “do you want to be made whole”, which is an agreement in mind. Jesus is asking if this healing is something the man really wants and if he is willing to break out of the last 38 years of thinking to have a new thought today.
2: Agreement in Action: Jesus instructs the man to “stand up, pick up your bed and walk,” which is an agreement in action. The instant your mind is in agreement with Divine Truth and that agreement is connected to some corresponding action, you are healed and transformed. But you must exercise those two agreements. Get up and move your feet as though the miracle has already taken place.
